The Physiological Affects of Steam All heat inducing treatments, including steam, affect the hypothalamus,
the heat regulation mechanism of the body. The hypothalamus responds to any stimulus that increases or
decreases the body temperature, and acts to maintain homeostasis in the body. Any increase to the body's
metabolic rate burns calories, improves circulation and beautifies the skin. Swedana is not recommended
during pregnancy, for those with high blood pressure or for anyone who may be challenged with a serious
illness.
